July 7-8 we headed out to Eastern Colorado for the Southeast GospelGrass Festival in Springfield, CO. On Friday night, to promote the festival, which was to be held the next day, and to give a sample of what the music would be like, several of the bands performed at a park in Lamar, CO. It was a casual, relaxed time. There was an enthusiastic audience, and fortunately, there was enough shade for the audience to get out of the heat. Those towns out on the plains really know how to cook up a hot summer day! The bands were performing as the sun went down…what a great evening! We stayed at The Stage Stop Hotel. which is one of Springfield’s historic buildings. Back in the 1920’s it was billed as the only place in town with a hot shower! Well, the showers are still hot, and the owner is remodeling the rooms while keeping the character of the hotel intact. We sure enjoyed our stay. The festival started at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning, and went all day. The bands each had a morning set and an afternoon set. It was another beautiful summer day on the plains, complete with plenty of sunshine, and early evening thunderstorms. The festival was stopped a bit early because of a good-sized thunderstorm that was heading our way. |

It's hard work getting a set list ready. It takes a lot of discussion... |
