Gnarled Pine you know the seasons
Your limbs can feel the reasons
of every passing breeze
Though your beauty’s all but faded
Still I see you standing strong
On this rim of stone you view the ancient scene
Your children now a rolling sea of green
Gnarled Pine you’ve seen the light
That caused grey wings to lift in flight
After sheltering in your shade
Thunder raged o’er your shoulder
You nurtured your own song
Tangled boughs renewed and nourished from above
Gathered stores ensure your legacy of love
Were your roots to delve below
And seek to grasp the darkened feet
Of those you delivered and hold on,
But who will hold you when you sound
A last retreat
Maybe it’s time to find your rest
Maybe it’s time to seek for sleep
Somewhere to look down on creation
Gnarled pine on a cloudy seat
Gnarled Pine your memory fades
Though all around a fair charade
Recall the days of youthful pride
As you journey from your home
This sacred ground will not forget
The scattered seeds that were the object of your toil
Rode the wind and landed on the fertile soil.
